If you fancy spending a day away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong city's streets, a trip out to the Sai Kung Peninsula is a welcome escape and provides you with a great insight into the traditional lifestyles of the region in the centuries before Hong Kong became an international business centre.

Sai Kung is actually the second largest district in Hong Kong, but is home to just 170,000 people and is perhaps the most unspoiled areas in the whole province. Hilly terrain and the protected landscapes of three country parks mean that development in Sai Kung is slow, and the area has been called both the lungs of the city and is often known as Hong Kong's back garden in deference to its position as a place that many of the locals de-camp to on the weekend.

With mile upon mile of beautiful beaches sheltered by the range of inland mountains Sai Kung is an idyllic spot to soak up the sun and enjoy some relaxation, but there is also plenty of local culture and colour to enjoy that contrasts with the life of Hong Kong itself. The region was first settled by fishermen from southern China in the 14th century; and the small coastal villages that they founded are still there to this day. There are traditional markets to explore, and seafood restaurants where ancient dishes are still served.

Your tour of Sai Kung includes all the main highlights of the region, includes plenty of time to escape from the crowd for some private exploration or sunbathing, and also features a seafood dinner at one of the best restaurants in the region.
