Head inland from Kowloon towards the border with mainland China to explore the New Territories on our exciting and illuminating journey into Hong Kong's history and present, and take this unique opportunity to discover more about life outside the city centre as you see another side to this incredible destination.

The New Territories of Hong Kong is the area north of the Kowloon hills as far as the border with China, and encompasses a vast area of both rural and suburban landscapes as well as countless small villages where the locals still live traditional lifestyles.

One of the highlights for any visitor to the new territories - and a central part of this tour is the chance to visit the Chuk Lam Shim Yuen - Bamboo Forest Monastery where you can see three of the largest statues of Buddha statues Hong Kong.

The tour also visits the rural village of Luen Wo where you can browse through stalls selling many different local foods and flowers before heading on to the border crossing at Luk Keng.

After a brief stop at the border, we return to the coast and the Plover Cove Country Park. This protected area includes a large freshwater inlet that has become a reservoir, and is one of the most important bird watching locations in South East Asia, and a great place to spot the famous bearded heron of Beijing - one of the rarest birds on earth.
