Leave the city of Hong Kong behind on this tour of historic Lantau Island, and discover traditional fishing villages, beaches, monasteries and much more.

Lantau Island, sometimes called the "Island of Prayer" is the largest island in Hong Kong. Reached by way of one of the world's longest suspension bridges (the Tsing Mai bridge), Lantau Island is home to many fascinating attractions that make it one of the most popular day trip destinations in the region.

The first stop on your tour of the island is the small fishing village Tai O, where you can see houses built on stilts above the water, and browse through the market to pick up some locally caught dried sea food and shrimp paste - a local speciality. Lantau Island is famed for its beautiful sandy beaches, and one of the best is Cheung Sha, where you will have time to stop and soak up the sun or get a snack from one of the beach bars.

The interior of Lantau Island is a beautiful place with rolling hills dotted with small temples and monasteries including the famous Po Lin Buddhist monastery, where you can see the largest outdoor statue of Buddha on the planet and see several stunning temples including one that houses a holy tooth.

After leaving the monastery, a boat ride back to Hong Kong via the high-speed hydrofoil awaits you. The route [passes several interesting sights including Kowloon Wharf and Stone Cutter's Island. If you are lucky, you may even see dolphins cavorting in the bow wave of the hydrofoil as you sail!
